Spiritual
disciplines are simply practices that we
decide to do regularly (hence the
“discipline” part of it) that help us be
more open to and aware of God’s grace in our
lives (the “spiritual” part). There is
nothing “magical” about them. Spiritual
disciplines do not force God to help us, or
make us some kind of super Christian. They
are something we choose to do, placing
ourselves before God in ways that invite the
Holy Spirit to further transform us.
Perhaps
you have heard of Spiritual disciplines.
Maybe you’ve wanted to try them, or wanted
to know more, but not known where to start.
I’m very excited that for the year 2008 we
will be introducing a Spiritual discipline
of the Month. Each month we will have an
information packet about that month’s
spiritual discipline. It will include
biblical basis of the practice, historical
information, and instructions to help you
begin practicing the spiritual disciplines
for yourself.
